Disposing of your old electrical and electronic products

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (known as the WEEE Regulations) came into force in the UK in July 2007. The purpose of the Regulations is to prevent and reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being land filled. It does this by placing an obligation on producers to pay for the recycling and recovery of their products when they reach end of life. This promotes re-use, recycling and recovery of the materials and avoids hazardous materials contained within electrical and electronic equipment going to landfill.

Electrical or electronic equipment is any product that relies on an electric current or battery to perform its primary function, for example a television, toasters or a mobile phone.

All new products covered by the WEEE Regulations will have a crossed out wheelie bin symbol displayed on the product or if it is a very small item, on the packaging. Older products will have no symbol but they can be recycled too. The aim of the symbol is to encourage householders to separate waste electrical products from the household waste and recycle them when they reach the end of life.

Avon Cosmetics Ltd is a registered producer under the WEEE Regulations, registration number WEE/AH0061TU and members of the WEEE producer compliance scheme Electrolink, who discharge the producer obligations on our behalf.

As a retailer we can offer a free of charge take back service on electrical or electronic product(s) purchased by you* through one of the independent Representatives or on-line provided it is replacing an old product(s) of equivalent type or fulfils the same function as the item of equipment we have supplied. In this case the items should be returned to the Representative by the consumer. Alternatively if the product was purchased on-line you can contact us and we will inform of the arrangements we have in place for recycling of that product.

Alternatively as a private householder you are of course able to take any old household WEEE items that you wish to dispose of to your local civic amenity site for recycling.

*The take back service applies to private householders only.
